Specializing in sandwiches and salads, Cafe at Pharr has been serving healthy fare to Atlantan’s since 1992, and man do they do it well.  Their menu is simple, consisting of a variety of cold salads (especially chicken salads… their real specialty) that are available as a sandwich or on a bed of fresh lettuce, carrot, and tomato. They also offer your typical cold-cut sandwiches featuring Boar’s Head meats. All meals are served with bread that is baked fresh daily, grapes, and delicious “cream-puffs” (their version is like a croissant wrapped around yogurt).  The salads come with a homemade ginger dressing that contains no oils or fat.

The chicken salad sandwich here deserves special mention.  They offer three varieties: celery (traditional), walnut, and curry.  I have only tried the traditional and curry, but I’m sure the walnut is just as good.  The thing that makes this chicken salad stand out above the rest is its texture.  It has the perfect amount of mayonnaise, and by that I mean that there is very little.  In fact, if I didn’t know better, I’d say there might not be any mayo at all.  The result is a salad that is the perfect balance between moist and dry.  The fresh baked bread upon which this heavenly chicken salad is served is thick, soft and spongy, with a slightly crunchy crust.  Together, the two create the best chicken salad sandwich I have ever put in my mouth.

Cafe at Pharr is a perfect destination for a quick, light, and inexpensive lunch.  And for the guys: it is ALWAYS packed with women.  I highly recommend it.

The original Cafe at Pharr is located in the Pharr Plaza shopping center at 316 Pharr Rd NE, Atlanta, 30305.  They have 2 other locations – one off Roswell Rd. and one in Foxglove Antiques off Miami Cir.  They are open Monday-Saturday from 10:30am – 4:00pm.
